Course Overview
Seated clients, whether due to neurological conditions, orthopedic injuries, or long-term wheelchair use, often face unique physical challenges, including core instability, upper limb overuse injuries, and cardiovascular deconditioning. This evidence-based course equips rehabilitation professionals with the knowledge and strategies to address these challenges through targeted cardio, core, and upper body strengthening interventions.
Participants will explore the benefits of aerobic conditioning, postural stability, and upper limb strength for improving mobility, ADLs, and quality of life in seated populations. The course discusses traditional training tools such as arm bikes and resistance bands, and newer solutions commercially available that integrate cardio, strength, and core training while promoting joint safety and accessibility.
Through research highlights, clinical guidelines, and a practical case example, attendees will learn why training cardio, core and the upper body is imperative for this population and learn how to best select appropriate interventions that are the safest and yield best outcomes relating to functional mobility.
The online class is intended for medical professionals (e.g. OT/OTA, PT/PTA, Physicians, etc.) directly related to the rehabilitation of a patient or client. To participate in this CEU and receive credit, the participant must be a licensed, treating clinician. Completion of this course will reward the participant with .1 CEU or 1 contact hours, following completion of the presentation and a ≥ 80% score on the quiz. You will have 90 days to complete this course.
